The “Gian Carlo Bojani” Collection of Contemporary Ceramic Art
In December 2014, the Municipality of Corinaldo inaugurated the “Gian Carlo Bojani” Collection of Contemporary Ceramic Art: a permanent exhibition of works housed on the top floor of Palazzo Brunori, a stately residence overlooking Via del Corso, masterfully restored by the Banca di Credito Cooperativo – which has its headquarters here – under the supervision of restorers Daniel Salvador Patti and Andrea Ippoliti.
This collection of around 200 works was donated to the Municipality of Corinaldo by Prof. Gian Carlo Bojani, who passed away on 17 May 2013. Born in Fano in 1938, Bojani served as director of the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza for more than 20 years and also held various posts at many other ceramics museums in Deruta, Gualdo Tadino, Gubbio, Fratterosa and Urbania. A professor at the Universities of Urbino and Ferrara, he authored numerous books, articles and essays, and curated many exhibitions.
His long career brought him into contact with Italian and international artists: it was precisely from these close relationships that his collection of pieces emerged, acquired or donated to him by the artists themselves. A diverse collection in terms of techniques and styles, blending works by famous artists with the first forays into ceramics by ordinary enthusiasts: a repertoire of forms and colours from which we are invited to draw free inspiration.
Bojani owned a house in Corinaldo, and the Professor decided to bequeath several volumes from his extensive library (comprising non-fiction, literature and philosophy) to this splendid medieval village that had welcomed him, as well as leaving this precious collection of ceramics on deposit as a bequest.
